What Types of Beds Do You Accept?
We accept gently used twin, twin XL, full, full XL and queen box springs and mattresses. We also accept crib mattresses. We DO NOT accept:
- Anything with “biological” stains, mold, large rips, holes or burns.
- Sleep Number Beds
- King Sized Beds
- Futons of any size
- Bed frames, headboards or other furniture
- Mattress toppers
- Hospital Beds
Why Don’t You Take King Beds?
King sized beds overall are too large for efficient management in both our truck and warehouse, and not well suited for space allowed in our clients’ homes. As a result, we never accept king sized beds.
What Qualifies as a Gently Used Bed?
We are looking for beds that are in good condition, clean with minimal (if any) staining and no tears or broken pieces. This video provides examples of what we do and do not accept. Please watch if not certain – we cannot collect any beds we are not able to use.
What if My Bed Does Not Qualify as Gently Used?
Currently, there are no local options for mattress recycling. We are hopeful this will be available again soon. If you are simply looking to dispose of it, please contact waste management for your city (keywords are typically solid waste or bulky item pickup). Fees for these services vary by municipality.
How Long Does It Take for You to Schedule Pickup of my Donated Bed?
Sleepyhead Beds is out in the community five days a week picking up donated beds. Unfortunately, we are a small organization, so it sometimes takes us a few days to get into contact with you and schedule your pickup. If you have questions or specific needs around your pickup, please contact us at donatebeds@sleepyheadbeds.org. We will be happy to work with you to resolve any issues.
Are You Bonded & Insured?
No, Sleepyhead Beds employees and volunteers are not bonded and insured as commercial movers.
Will You Carry the Bed from my Basement or Second Floor?
Sleepyhead Beds will pick up your bed from the garage or exterior location of your home. Our crew does not enter residences.
Can You Waive the Donation Pickup Fee?
On average, it costs $60 per child for us to locate, pick up, sanitize, and redistribute a bed and bedding. Sleepyhead Beds is a non-profit organization funded entirely by pickup fees and community donations. We receive no state or federal funding, so we are unable to waive our $40 pickup fee.
Do You Have Bed Frames/Furniture?
Sleepyhead Beds provides the box spring and mattress. We also provide a new pillow and bedding if we have it available. We DO NOT provide cribs, bed frames or other bedroom furniture. We often have rails to share with families from grant support.
Do You Deliver?

I’m an Adult. Can I Get a Bed from Sleepyhead Beds?
Sleepyhead Beds mission is tied to meeting the needs of children (and their immediate families) in the community. We are unable to help you if you are a single adult in need of a bed. We recommend reaching out to Flourish Furniture Bank.
Are Your Beds New?
Our beds are not typically new. Most of our beds come from the community, either through individual donations or via hotels, college dorms, and others who are replacing mattresses. Although the beds are not new, we only redistribute gently used beds, those with relatively little (if any) staining and no tears.
How Are the Beds Sanitized?
We use a product called Steri -Fab. The nonresidual spray deodorizes as it disinfects and is the only EPA registered disinfectant and insecticide in one product. Beds coming into the warehouse are immediately sprayed and set out to dry. Once dry, they are stacked for re-distribution.
Can I schedule a specific time?
When we schedule bed pickups, we are working in a specific area of the city. We can give you a window of time to expect us but cannot always guarantee a specific pick up time. We will always call to let you know when we are on our way from the prior stop.
Can I Drop Off a Donated Bed/Bedding?
Yes. We are not always at the warehouse during the day, so mattress and box spring drop offs must be Monday – Thursday from 9-9:30am and 2-2:30pm when our crew is here to help you unload. . No appointment is required. If you have bedding to drop off, we do have a container located just outside our front door 24/7. For questions, please contact us at donatebeds@sleepyheadbeds.org.
Can I Pay Cash at the Time of Pickup?
We are no longer accepting cash for bed pickups. We’d prefer that you pay via the Donation Button If you have issues with on-line payments, we will accept a check.
How Can I Get on Your List to Receive a Bed if I Don’t Have a Computer?
Because we are a very small organization, we communicate almost exclusively through email. To be added to our list, you must have an advocate apply on-line at our website. We do not take calls or registrations over the phone.
